The 1997 wine embodies an early and warm year, marked by contrasting weather but favorable to seductive and expressive wines. The Bordeaux wines 1997, supple and round, stand out for their accessibility and maturity, particularly in the Pomerol 1997 and Saint-Émilion 1997 appellations, while the Sauternes 1997 reach a legendary level. In Burgundy, the white wines 1997 from Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, like the red wines 1997 from the Côte de Nuits, reveal remarkable balance. The Rhône 1997, with its Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Loire and its Vouvray and Saumur Champigny, Jurançon, Alsace and even Jura deliver wines of beautiful typicity and great elegance.

The year 1997 began under ideal climatic conditions: a mild winter and warm spring led to one of the earliest flowerings of the century. The summer, alternating heat and rainy episodes, produced heterogeneous maturities, but the most rigorous estates were able to take advantage of a beautiful late season to produce balanced and expressive wines.
The 1997 vintage is recognized for its supple, generous and harmonious wines, with beautiful aromatic maturity. While it does not rival the structure of the 1996 or 2000 vintages, it offers immediate accessibility and certain tasting pleasure, particularly in the red wines 1997 from Bordeaux, Sauternes, Burgundy and the Loire.
In Bordeaux, the 1997 vintage produced accessible, supple and round wines, marked by early maturity and vibrant fruit. The merlots from the right bank, particularly in Pomerol 1997 and Saint-Émilion 1997, yielded fleshy and velvety wines. Among the successes: Petrus 1997, Le Pin 1997, L'Évangile 1997, La Fleur-Pétrus 1997 or Cheval Blanc 1997.
The Graves 1997 display beautiful harmony, led by exceptional growths such as Château Haut-Brion 1997, La Mission Haut-Brion 1997, or Domaine de Chevalier 1997.
But it is in Sauternes that the year 1997 reached a mythical level. Perfect botrytization and meticulous sorting produced wines of exceptional richness, comparable to the great 1989 and 1990 vintages. The cuvées of Château d'Yquem 1997, Suduiraut 1997, Lafaurie-Peyraguey 1997, Rieussec 1997, Rayne-Vigneau 1997 are among the finest sweet wines of the 20th century.
The 1997 vintage in Burgundy stands out for favorable conditions and a healthy harvest. The white wines 1997 display remarkable purity and precision, with aromas of citrus, white flowers and hazelnut. The terroirs of Meursault 1997, Puligny-Montrachet 1997 and Chassagne-Montrachet 1997 deliver splendid cuvées signed Coche-Dury, Domaine Leflaive, Bonneau du Martray.
The red wines 1997 from Côte de Nuits are fine and expressive, particularly in Vosne-Romanée, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, La Tâche with estates such as Domaine Dujac 1997, Joseph Drouhin1997, Domaine de la Romanée Conti 1997 or Henri de Villamont 1997.
The Rhône 1997 is a sunny and seductive vintage, particularly successful in the north. The Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie and Cornas combine structure and finesse, signed by Guigal 1997, Chapoutier 1997, Jaboulet Aine 1997 and Jean-Louis Chave 1997.
In the south, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape 1997 offer rich and aromatic wines, led by Beaucastel 1997, Clos des Papes 1997 or Rayas 1997.
Thanks to an exceptional late season, the Loire Valley 1997 marks a superb vintage for white and sweet wines. The Coteaux-du-Layon, Saumur Champigny and Vouvray deliver wines of rare elegance. Among the successes: Domaine Huet 1997 or Clos Rougeard. These wines stand out for their freshness, balance and aging potential.
