A very pretty and aromatic wine, with spices, berries and violets. Medium-bodied with medium, fine tannins and a polished finish.

Bordeaux red color. Good intensity. Nose of good intensity. Rather aromatic for the vintage. Woody type, notes of coffee and chocolate. Fruity. Smoky when swirled. Soft attack, developing on a tender and fruity structure, which evolves towards a fairly dense matter and fruity aromas somewhat subdued by the barrel. In my opinion, there is too much of it. Savory persistence on the wood rather than the fruit. Pity. Appears to be for aging. Very good stability in the air.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1997 Rauzan-Ségla is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Merlot. Deep brick colored, it provides evolved notes of dusty soil, sandalwood, cigar box and leather with a touch of mincemeat pie. Fading on the medium-bodied palate, there are some lingering remnants of dried black fruits with chewy tannins and some baking spice hints, but not much of a finish here.
