Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A great showing for this wine in the mini-vertical, the 2001 Pavie has a slight lightening at the edge of its dark garnet/plum/purple color and a big, sweet kiss of cedar wood, incense, licorice, blackberry and lead pencil shavings. The wine is dense, very rich, multilayered and finishes with at least a 40- to 45-second aftertaste. This wine seems to be close to full maturity, but should hold there for easily another 15-20 years. It’s a sleeper of the vintage.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Fully mature, and simply great in your glass with its wall of roasted plums, cherries, smoke, licorice, dried flowers, and sea salt in the perfume. The palate was even better with its wealth of red and black fruits, licorice, oceanic accents, and touch of espresso. This is fully ready to go. Drink from 2023-2038.

This is hitting its stride now, with a very focused core of raspberry, plum and red currant fruit that is showing some secondary notes while melding perfectly with the singed alder and cedar flavors and tobacco and black tea accents. Mineral and sanguine hints chime in on the finish, which lingers with a sense of elegance. Really nice now, but there's no rush.

An open, accessible Pavie with flavours that are already showing evolution and tannins that are velvety and approachable. Complex, deep and fairly dense red with a long finish.

La Revue du Vin de France
RVF Magazine The nose is slightly earthy on opening and the palate offers a full body, but it does not possess the richness or power of the 2000. The wine needs air for the slightly animal notes to disappear. The fruit is there, but with a marked evolution of taste.

Dark color, medium intensity and evolved. Very aromatic and fruity nose. Nuances of cedar and smoke. Smooth on the entry, then mellow, the wine takes on a somewhat rigid character between the middle and the finish where it presents itself very marked by new oak. It's a shame because the length is good.

Richly enveloping nose. Borderline overripeness. Hot chocolate! Thick and sweet and sort of carved out of stone. Quite porty but with some freshness of fruit. Exaggerated but pleasurable. Drying tannins on the finish. Pretty luscious.

Château Pavie
Château Pavie

In Bordeaux, it is now established that it was on the slopes of Pavie and Ausone that the vine was first planted in the Saint Emilion region in the 4th century. However, it wasn't until the 19th century that Pavie's true wine-growing vocation truly took shape. At that time, the estate was divided among several families of owners, including the Tallemans and the Pigasses. In 1954, during the official classification of Saint Emilion wines, Château Pavie achieved the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé B. The arrival of Gérard Perse at Pavie in 1998 would mark the beginning of a tremendous leap forward, now endorsed unanimously by the wine world. In 2012, Château Pavie obtained the top of the classification among the Premiers Grands Crus Classés A.
