Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
It possesses a certain approachability, which is somewhat disarming for the big, robust, super-concentrated and ageworthy style Pavie has favored since 1998. The opaque purple-hued, full-bodied 2011 offers a sweet kiss of kirsch, blackberry, cassis and licorice, but no evidence of toasty oak despite the fact it is bottled about six months after most other premier grand cru classes in St.-Emilion. One of the most complete wines of the vintage, this superstar possesses gorgeous texture and opulence, and can be drunk in 3-4 years, or cellared for two decades.

Wine Spectator May - 2017
Wine Spectator
Very solidly built, with dark plum, boysenberry and red currant paste flavors forming the core, all harnessed by ample grip. This shows classic Bordeaux cut, with grippy yet ripe tannins. Delivers serious graphite and tobacco elements on the back end that should evolve with more time. This has less sizzle than some of the other vintages but just as much steak.

Falstaff August - 2014
Falstaff
Deep dark ruby red, strong core color, violet reflections, slightly watery rim. Fine spice in the background, aromas of dark berries, nuances of cherry, blackberry and licorice, fine hints of candied orange peel. Complex, with aromas of dark berries, very lively, still present tannins, chocolaty, with great finish. A wine for the early aging process, which will only reach its full potential in about ten years.

Intense robe with purple reflections. Deep nose of ripe cherry with an oak note in the background. Concentrated and full mouth, of great power. A virile and robust wine, revealing beautiful extraction and still marked by oak. Definite potential.

Tannic, young and stony at this stage, if you have a bottle give it 3- 5 years in the cellar, or 2-4 hours in the decanter.

Here is a ripe and juicy wine that pushes forward with delicious blackberry fruits. There is a tense edge of acidity that then brings out denser tannins, but juiciness characterizes this wine.

Jancis Robinson May - 2022

Very deep purplish crimson. The most youthful colour. Ripe fruit and light floral notes. Lots of tannin even after all this time. Surely this is Ch Pavie? When will the tannins fade? After the fruit, I fear. Unbalanced and trying too hard.

Château Pavie
Château Pavie

In Bordeaux, it is now established that it was on the slopes of Pavie and Ausone that the vine was first planted in the Saint Emilion region in the 4th century. However, it wasn't until the 19th century that Pavie's true wine-growing vocation truly took shape. At that time, the estate was divided among several families of owners, including the Tallemans and the Pigasses. In 1954, during the official classification of Saint Emilion wines, Château Pavie achieved the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé B. The arrival of Gérard Perse at Pavie in 1998 would mark the beginning of a tremendous leap forward, now endorsed unanimously by the wine world. In 2012, Château Pavie obtained the top of the classification among the Premiers Grands Crus Classés A.
