Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This lighter-styled wine appears diluted in terms of color, but it possesses surprising quantities of sweet black cherry fruit intermixed with hints of resin, licorice, and tobacco. It is a medium to full-bodied Châteauneuf with far more flavor and intensity than its light-ish colors suggest.

Medium carmine garnet, broad watery rim. Fine spice note, a hint of macchia, ripe plum fruit, delicate floral nuances. On the palate rather slender, medium complexity, red berry nuances, delicately salty finish, a fine-boned but not a great Rayas, subtle Burgundian nuances.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Past full maturity and starting to drop its fruit, the wine shows too much pepper, herbs and earthy notes at this stage of life, causing you to miss some of the beautiful, kirsch and pure cherry tones that are associated with the wine. The finish shows a slight rustic edge in the end notes. If you're sitting on a few bottles, it's time to drink up, before more of the fruit fades away. One important note on this vintage that needs to be recognized, it was the final vintage that was produced by Jacques Reynaud. This was the first year that Emmanuel Reynaud completed the aging process and bottled the wine. From that point forward, Emmanuel Reynaud took charge of the estate.

Excellent effort for this vintage, which was difficult in the Southern Rhône. A lush, ripe, lovely wine, packed with blackberry and cassis flavors. Full-bodied; a good candidate for the cellar.

Château Rayas
Château Rayas

The Rayas estate is located in the southern Rhône Valley, in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Founded by Albert Reynaud and passed down through four generations, this intimate family estate spans only 10 hectares and has established itself as a major reference among the great wines of the Rhône.

Long led by Emmanuel Reynaud, who recently passed away, the estate continues to perpetuate his legacy and singular vision of wine. The Reynaud family is also behind Domaine des Tours and Château de Fonsalette. At Rayas, Grenache is the sole grape variety for red wines, while white wines are crafted from Grenache and Clairette, in a style characterized by finesse, purity and terroir expression.

Among Rayas' iconic vintages are the Rayas 1990, Rayas 2006, Rayas 2007, Rayas 2009 and Rayas 1989, essential references of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
