La Revue du Vin de France January - 2018
La Revue du Vin de France
Editor's Choice Green Guide 2018 Here is a very solid contender in the race to the top of the vintage. Massive, dense, but also very subtle, it asserts its grand cru palate and above all very noble tannins.

Showing just a hint of lightening in the color, the wine is showy from the get-go with its nuances of black and red currants, spice, flowers, creme de cassis, thyme, smoke, and licorice in the perfume. On the palate, the wine is opulent, long, polished, lush, and elegant. The fruit glides across your palate, serving up waves of sweet, deep, red berries. The finish lingers, builds, and expands. Give this a few more years and you will find even more opulence and sensuality.

Following the style that this estate has now adopted, this is an ultrarich, concentrated wine. However its acidity and bright black-currant fruits contrast well with this solid base.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Noble, deep, dark-fruited and with a smoky note, black currant, noble toasty hints; full-bodied palate, almost two mouthfuls of wine, excellent tannin quality, great class; spicy, long-lasting finish. A benchmark, with great reserves.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Cumin, smoked cinnamon, blackberry and cassis, with a slate scrape of tannins, this conveys plenty of estate signature and rises above shortcomings of 2015 in this corner of the region. You can find more concentrated Poyferrés in the estate’s back vintages, but that makes it a great moment to begin drinking. Remarkably similar to the last time I tasted this two years ago, suggesting that this is very much in peak drinking, and will continue to deliver over the next decade at least.

Wine Spectator March - 2018
Wine Spectator
Dark plum cake, blueberry reduction and açaí berry fruit tilts this to the exotic side of the ledger, with warm ganache, melted black licorice and tar notes providing the spine through the lush finish. Displays some serious latent grip, so there's no rush despite the showy fruit.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 2015 Leoville Poyferre is deep garnet-purple colored with a nose of grilled meats, baked plums, crème de cassis and baker's chocolate with nuances of dusty soil and iron ore plus a hint of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, very firm and muscular in the mouth, it is built like a brick house with a mineral-tinged finish.

Falstaff March - 2019

Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, subtle rim lightening, subtle noble wood touch, fresh black cherries, tobacco nuances, mineral hint. Firm, tight-knit, dark forest berry compote, present tannins, delicate vegetal spice, salty finish, comes across as slightly green.

Restrained, elegant aromatics with cassis, forest fruits and blackberries, along with vanilla, smoke and tobacco. On the palate, tightly woven with polished tannins and a juicy acidity. Long-lasting.

Glowing garnet. Very slightly sweaty, indistinct nose. Beefy. Not the subtlest but it has heft. Chewy, drying, sudden finish.

Château Leoville Poyferre
Château Leoville Poyferre

Château Léoville Poyferré is a Bordeaux wine estate. Under the Saint Julien appellation, it is classified as a second growth in the official 1855 Médoc wine classification.

During the reign of Louis XIII, in 1638, Master Jean de Moytié, an ennobled Bordeaux bourgeois and counselor to the Parliament of Bordeaux, owned a vineyard planted on a gravel hill near the River. This gave the place the name "Mont-Moytié", following the custom of the time to designate a place by the name of its owner. The Mont-Moytié cru was part of these first historical growths of the Médoc, all born before the Fronde (1648-1653). The Médoc was then giving birth to its first parish growths.

This beautiful vineyard, originating from the former Léoville estate in northern Saint-Julien, is one of the best terroirs of the appellation and certainly the richest of the second growths. The 80 hectares planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc produce a deep and rich wine.

Château Léoville Poyferré produces elegant, very fine, balanced, and complex wines with intense color and velvety texture, which have excellent aging potential.
