Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This vintage clearly demonstrates how well La Mission-Haut-Brion can do in an off year. The year 1972 was certainly the worst vintage of the decade, yet this wine displays a wonderfully fragrant, spicy, cedary, slightly herbaceous, berry-scented bouquet, ripe, round, spicy flavors, medium body, and an attractively lush finish.

Jean-Marc Quarin May - 2008

I think the rating would be even higher if this wine had not been double decanted. The color is clear and the nose smells nicely of truffle, licorice, fruit despite some less encouraging iodine notes. Palate presenting flavors of fruit and ink. The body remains medium, presents aromatic and without any tannic harshness.

Tom Cannavan (01-2008) Briar, truffle and brown sugar sweetness showing through. Some coffee. The palate doesn't show so well, with a hollowness about the mid palate and just vestiges of fruit.

Château La Mission Haut Brion
Château La Mission Haut Brion

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the most emblematic estates of Pessac-Léognan, recognized for the depth, longevity and singularity of its red and white wines. Classified as Cru Classé de Graves, the château shares with its illustrious neighbor Château Haut-Brion an ancient history and an exceptional terroir, while asserting its own stylistic identity, often described as more powerful and more earthy.

Planted on deep gravel soils mixed with clays and sands, the vineyard benefits from a grape variety dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for the reds, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc for the whites. This diversity allows for precise blends, giving birth to wines of great aromatic intensity, structured, but always balanced.

Since its integration into the Dillon family, La Mission Haut-Brion has undergone an exemplary modernization of its facilities while maintaining a respectful approach to the terroir. Vinifications are conducted with great precision, aiming to preserve the expression of the soil and the purity of the fruit.

Major vintages such as Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1947, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1949, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1955, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1982, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1989, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 1990, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2000, Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2010, illustrate the estate's capacity to produce exceptional wines for aging, sought after on the great collection wines market and recognized for their remarkable evolution over the decades.
