Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
High levels of Cabernet Sauvignon, a reflection of how well this grape did in the 2016 vintage as well as replanting in the vineyards, and you start to see the Giscours of today. Beautiful, this for me is hugely better than the 2009, with creaminess to the texture, and plenty of dark ripe fruit character, paired with grip and understated power, opening through to bitter chocolate, sage, liquorice and campfire smoke. Great quality, full of energy and saline kick.

Giscours shows an initial character of great style and elegance. The shining fruit and concentrated tannins follow, making it both a seductive wine and one with a long-term future.

Features a lightly firm, singed alder frame around a core of dark plum, cherry and cassis bush notes. Taut tar and warm paving stone notes fill in on the finish. Shows serious, well-embedded grip, and the core of fruit is spot on. This has the range, length and cut for the cellar. Best from 2014 through 2030.

Vibrant, fresh, floral, full-bodied, elegant, and young, the wine needs more time in the cellar to allow the tannins to melt away and for the wine to deliver all of its elegant, silky character.

Falstaff March - 2014
Falstaff
Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, subtle rim lightening, smoky-roasted cherry fruit, delicate hints of liquorice and orange zest, tobacco nuances in the background. Juicy, lively, elegant body, fine cherry fruit, pleasant tannins, fresh structure, red berry finish, good length, a touch of nougat on the finish, extract-sweet aftertaste, assured ageing potential.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at the Château Giscours vertical, the 2010 Château Giscours is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon and 29% Merlot picked between September 27 and October 14. I contrasted this directly against the superb 2009, but I still maintain that this has the upper hand, albeit in a different style. The aromatics are very focused with black fruit, violets, fig and mineral scents that are very well defined. But you need patience - this is not as immediate as the previous vintage. The palate delivers, delivers and delivers brilliant delineation and poise, more freshness than it knows what to do with, an intensity that is supremely well focused and length in the mouth. There is even a dab of mint chocolate making a surprise appearance on the aftertaste. This is a very impressive Giscours.

Of a thoroughly seductive nature, at the height of the greatest Giscours, elegant, appetising, floral, fruity and fresh, with crisp tannins. Has Premier Cru-level quality.

Tightly wound. Sweet start but fairly soon some pretty drying tannins step in. Ideally hold on to this for a while.

Château Giscours
Château Giscours

Château Giscours is a Bordeaux wine estate located in Labarde in Gironde. Château Giscours produces wines under the AOC Margaux appellation. It is ranked among the Third Growth (Grand Cru Classé) in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification, and is one of the most important estates in the Médoc. The vineyard spans nearly 86 hectares within a 300-hectare property. Giscours thus continues the legacy of generations of winemakers, making this estate a world-renowned Grand Cru.

Note the existence of an impeccable second wine: La Sirène de Giscours.

The best vintages of Giscours are the 1945 wines, the 1961, 1982, and 1989 vintages which are excellent. Finally, the 1990 vintage, the 2000 and 2009 grand crus, as well as the 2015 vintage are among the Château's greatest achievements.
