Falstaff August - 2013
Falstaff
Powerful ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate watery rim. Attractive black berry fruit, underlaid with ripe plums, a hint of violets and strawberry confit, sweet herbal spice. Highly elegant, ripe morello cherries, freshly and vibrantly structured, mineral, almost salty on the finish, extract-sweet and lingering for minutes. Already accessible now, has secure development potential, a wine of very finesse-rich style.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Unprompted, Paul-Vincent Avril pulled a 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape from the admirable library stock he maintains at Clos des Papes. Who was I to say no? A stupendous effort that seamlessly marries full-bodied richness with a sense of lightness and ease, it's really just now maturing, although it has been drinkable for some time. Leather accents raspberry and blackberry fruit on the nose, while the long, silky-textured finish adds delicate notes of star anise, peppery spice and black olive. This complex, elegant masterpiece should continue to drink well for another decade and then some.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Full bodied, packed and stuffed with sweet, spicy berries, red fruits and floral notes. The wine is sweet, concentrated and dense. There is a lot of volume and depth in this wine. At 16% alcohol ,there is no sensation of heat at any point in the experience. I could be short changing this wine on the 98 Pt score, it's sublime and really leaves a lasting impression. A few years in the bottle should add a lot to this elixir.

asted blind. Liquorice, aniseed, dark chocolate, black fruit. Ripe, modern, edged with a bit of mint and herbs. Acid seems a bit high though.

Clos Des Papes

Clos des Papes is one of the most emblematic estates of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the southern Rhône Valley. A historic property of the Avril family, it has embodied for several decades a demanding vision deeply rooted in the terroirs of the appellation. The estate has established itself as an essential reference through the consistency of its style, the precision of its viticultural choices, and a comprehensive understanding of Châteauneuf-du-Pape soils.

Now led by Paul-Vincent Avril, named Winemaker of the Year 2026 by La Revue des Vins de France, Clos des Papes exemplifies an approach based on blending terroirs and grape varieties, considered the very essence of the appellation. The estate produces a single cuvée, in both red and white, without segmentation, a rare choice that reinforces the consistency and identity of the wines.

The vineyard extends over approximately 35 hectares, predominantly planted with red varieties, with plantings dominated by Grenache, complemented by a significant proportion of Mourvèdre, as well as Syrah and other traditional grape varieties. Yields are deliberately kept low and vine selection is particularly rigorous.

The wines of Clos des Papes are distinguished by their depth, balance, and remarkable aging potential, combining controlled power with natural elegance. Among the iconic vintages are Clos des Papes 1990, Clos des Papes 2001, Clos des Papes 2006, Clos des Papes 2007, Clos des Papes 2010, Clos des Papes 2011, and Clos des Papes 2016.
