Jancis Robinson October - 2019
Jancis Robinson
Raspberry, spice, meat, chocolate. Finely trimmed, proportionate and elegant. Superbly youthful still, and long-lived in prospect – but pretty irresistible now.

(2010) Rock-solid, with a terrifically built core of black Mission fig, macerated currant and warm fig paste supported by iron-clad tannins. The background is filled with iron, tar and espresso, but this stays racy and pure, despite the dark profile. Just a step behind the 2005, with superb grip and density.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Clape's 2006 Cornas continues to drink well, like so many 2006s. It boasts a wonderful array of roasted meat, black olive and cassis flavors. Full-bodied, with a fabulously silky and rich texture, it finishes savory and long. Just a lovely bottle of mature Cornas.

Domaine Auguste Clape
Domaine Auguste Clape

The Auguste Clape estate is a reference in the Cornas appellation. Located in the southern part of the Rhône Valley, the red wines are 100% Syrah. Auguste Clape's Cornas wines are renowned for their straight, racy character and certain sobriety. Aged for 2 years in concrete tanks then in old foudres, these are wines built for aging. Since 1955, the Auguste Clape estate has been producing wines at the highest level, notably by adopting sustainable vineyard practices. Pierre-Marie Clape, Auguste's son who gained experience at Domaines Tempier and Le Vieux Télégraphe, has been working at the estate since 1988. He was joined in 2002 by his own son Olivier.

Only 2 cuvées are produced: Cornas with vines aged 40 to 90 years and Renaissance with younger vines.

Area: 8.8 ha; Production: 30,000 bottles/year; Average vine age: 45 years; Red grape varieties: Syrah; White grape varieties: Roussanne, Marsanne
