Tom Cannavan January - 2005
Tom Cannavan
Intense deep crimson. Very fragrant; cherry and blackcurrant, with a lightness and floral edge, over some plummier notes and an almost kirsch-like ripeness. The palate is full, sweet and harmonious, with quite a fat, ripe red fruit quality and a smooth, silky texture. There's a warmth to the oak and the polished, very refined tannins, which with a coffee note and quite a generous plumskin acidity gives a very inviting, approachable profile. There is good depth though, in a delicious style.

Wonderful aromas of raspberry and currant. Full-bodied, with refined, silky tannins and a long aftertaste. Beautiful and tender.

THE WINE PALATE : A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2004 d’Armailhac is medium to deep garnet in color. It rolls out with expressive notes of boysenberry preserves, prunes, and redcurrant jelly, plus hints of wild sage, wet slate, and leather. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is delicately played and refreshing with chewy tannins supporting the savory flavors, finishing a tad rustic.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A dark ruby color is accompanied by crisp acids, sweet cranberry, black cherry, and darker fruit aromas, and a clean, pure, classically built, medium weight Pauillac. Still firm and tannic, this medium-bodied, elegantly wrought wine will benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep for 12-15 years.

Cedar wood, peppery berries and cassis in character, another year or two could add some softness to the sandy tannins in the blackberry and cranberry end notes.

A light, fresh, very accessible wine that has good, vibrant fruit and acidity. No great depths, but certainly pleasurable.

Serious inky, juicy wine. Lively, fresh, though dry on the end.

Château D'Armailhac
Château D'Armailhac

Château d'Armailhac is a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac whose history dates back to the 18th century, deeply linked to that of the Médoc and the Rothschild family. Long known under the names Château Mouton-d'Armailhacq, then Château Mouton-Baron-Philippe and Château Mouton-Baronne-Philippe, the estate reclaimed its historical name in 1989, asserting a distinct identity among the great wines of Pauillac.

Located on deep gravel terroirs characteristic of the appellation, the vineyard benefits from grape varieties dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. This diversity allows for precise blends, faithful to the classic style of Pauillac: assertive structure, elegant tannins and aromatic expression combining black fruits, spices and cedar notes.

Under the impetus of the Rothschild family, Château d'Armailhac has experienced a remarkable rise in qualitative consistency, while maintaining an accessible positioning among the classified growths. Vintages such as Château d'Armailhac 1995, Château d'Armailhac 2000, Château d'Armailhac 2005, Château d'Armailhac 2016. illustrate the estate's ability to produce balanced, expressive wines capable of aging, sought after by lovers of great Pauillacs.
